The Traditional English Restaurants of London

Your guide to English restaurants in London

Greig's Grill

Alastair Greig was a prominent pioneer among London restaurateurs, and, as he was a huge man, he also really looked the part. His clear belief was that if you used the best ingredients, then it would take a real idiot to muck them up, and the success of his restaurant remains as a testament to how right he was.

Bruton Place (see Guinea Grill also) seems to be the home of simple, straightforward grills, but at a price! This attractive establishment, with a more modern decor than before, as it was recently refurbished in 1998/9 (it was starting to look a little dated previously!), serves excellent quality cuts of beef.

However, its legion of fans, some of many years standing, say that you really cannot find a better grill anywhere in the world; combined with a great relaxing atmosphere, though rather male orientated, this winning formula continues to thrive.

They offer an extremely good value - especially considering the area they are in - Special Set Lunch, inclusive of all additional charges, for £15.95, with starters such as prawn cocktail, avocado or smoked trout, and mains of 225 grm (half a pound, plenty for most people!) Scotch sirloin or rump, as well as lamb cutlets or Dover sole.

Conveniently it is open seven days a week, from 12 pm until midnight (11 pm Sundays).
