The Traditional English Restaurants of London

Your guide to English restaurants in London

The Guinea

The Guinea is next door to ‘Greig’s Grill’ in Bruton Place, and serves a broadly similar menu to a devoted clientele.

Some people complain that it is very pricey for straightforward food, but it is thoroughly approved of by a long-time following, with comments like ‘the best steak this side of Texas’.

Its décor is considered rather dated, and stuffy, by some, nevertheless others love the fact that it has not changed for many a year, and it certainly has a utilitarian but user-friendly dining room.

It also has the strangest entrance in London, through a packed pub, though it serves a purpose, as you are asked to choose your steak as you go through.

Kitschly different, and particularly popular with Americans, who initially can’t believe that steaks can possibly cost so much, until they realise that quality never comes cheaply.
