The Traditional English Restaurants of London

Your guide to English restaurants in London

Stanleys

Formerly known as R.K. Stanleys, strangely they have dropped the intials, it has become Stanleys instead. This place sells itself as the new home of the great British banger (sausage).

The meat is supplied specially to them from smallholdings in North Wales, and you can actually watch – it really is welcomed by them – the sausages being made on the premises.

They offer what they call ‘their magnificent seven’ selection, which include a Simple Stanley, a straightforward pork sausage, a game version, a hot, hot, hot Caribbean-style jerk sausage, and lastly a vegetarian Glamorgan sausage, made with cheese.

Starters include steamed mussels, smoked haddock and soup of the day, whilst the desserts are traditional with a twist, like a superb fig pudding with a wonderful toffee sauce or treacle tart. Watch out though that you don’t order too much, as helpings are substantial.

Add to all of that pleasant, helpful service and an American style setting, a huge choice of beers, and Stanleys offers something not available elsewhere in London, definitely a unique operation.
