Introduction by Richard, Earl of Bradford
(Continued from homepage)
Fortunately, in the last twenty years, we have seen a sea-change in London, and one of the great strengths of the vibrant, modern restaurant scene in London is its incredible variety.
It offers the finest modern French and Italian food, as well as a huge choice of Ethnic Restaurants, from the more common styles such as Indian, Thai or Chinese to the rarer Malaysian, Vietnamese or even Ethiopian and Afghani. London has them all, as well as every Continental cuisine imaginable.
However, if you are seeking traditional English restaurants to dine at, your selection is still strangely rather restricted.
Is it that the English are not proud of their native cuisine, or is it that there seems to be a common belief that English dishes tend to be bland and that everything is rather similar? Sadly that may be how many view English food, but none of these opinions could be further from the actual reality, particularly in London.
Do people honestly believe these days that English restaurants only offer over-cooked Roast Beef served with soggy vegetables or stodgy puddings for dessert?
No, that view is so outdated that it can only be considered as a laughable caricature, the fact is that a properly prepared Sirloin of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding is a dish fit for a King, whilst a Steamed Syrup Sponge can be a sensuous delight.
The places in this guide will prove to you that English restaurants in London now serve tasty, tempting dishes with a wide variety.
Do note that for many of the restaurants we offer an Online booking service, just look for the Book Online icon on the top right of the page.
